April 15 was another big day at Point of View Farm at Beard. It was the day 15 year old black bear Rose led her three cubs out of the enclosure where they were born and into the forest surrounding Point of View Farm, owned by wildlife rehaber Joel Rosenthal.
Rosenthal raised Rose from a cub and has provided shelter for her every year during bear season. Rose has returned every year to her “home” and has given birth to more than a dozen cubs there.
Rose and her broods are not the only animals Rosenthal is tending or has tended to at his farm. He has taken care of white tail deer, racoons, opossums, a fox, (who gave birth to her young in his house), owls, hawks, vultures and more.
While Rosenthal’s goal is to rehab and release all the animals, there are some whose injuries are so severe as to prevent them from surviving on their own in the wild. J. Rosenthal photo
