Pocahontas County Board of Education’s September 11 meeting continued.

In miscellaneous management, the board approved the following:

• Bid from West Virginia Signal & Light, Inc. to replace the school zone flasher system at Hillsboro Elementary School at a cost not to exceed $15,250.

• Bid from Blue Bird Bus Sales of West Virginia for one new 2018 Blue Bird 77-passenger “Vision” conventional school bus at a total cost of $89,889.

• To place IKL-D – Pocahontas County Schools “Bring Your Own Device” Policy and GBG – Service Personnel Evaluation Policy on 30-day comment.

• Policy IFCD – Volunteer Service.

• The following volunteers for the 2017-2018 season/ school year:

– Shannon Alderman – basketball coach at Hillsboro Elementary School

– Gina Hardesty – basketball coach at Hillsboro Elementary School

– Shannon Anderson – cheerleading coach at Hillsboro Elementary School

– Laura Pritt – cheerleading coach at Hillsboro Elementary School

– Heather Simmons – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

– Robert Simmons – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

– Kristi Smith – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

– David Smith – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

– Jody Spencer – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

– Rebecca Spencer – archery coach for Pocahontas County Schools

• The following field trips

– Green Bank Elementary-Middle School students to travel by school bus to Polyface Farm in Swoop, Virginia, on September 18.

– Green Bank Elementary-Middle School fourth grade students to travel by chartered bus to Washington, D.C., departing GBEMS on May 29, 2018 and returning to the school June 1, 2018. Expenses to be paid for by fundraising.

– Green Bank Elementary-Middle School eighth grade students to travel by chartered bus to Virginia Beach, Virginia, departing GBEMS on May 22, 2018 and returning to the school on May 25, 2018. Expenses to be paid for by fundraising.

– Pocahontas County High School livestock judging team to travel by rental van to Morgantown, departing PCHS on September 12 and returning to the school on September 14. Expenses paid for by FFA, vocational and county funds.

• Memorandums of Understanding between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Community Care of West Virginia to have clinics at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, Marlinton Elementary School, Marlinton Middle School and Pocahontas County High School.

• Pocahontas County Collaborative Preschool Memorandum of Understanding.

• Memorandum of Understanding between West Virginia Department of Education and Pocahontas County Board of Education in response to West Virginia Graduation 20/20, 2017-2018.

• Contract between Pocahontas County Board of Education and Erica Marks to provide art instruction to students at Hillsboro Elementary School half-days, three-and-a-half hours per week, $100 per half-day, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, not to exceed $3,100.

• Contract between Pocahontas County Health Department and Pocahontas County Board of Education, to provide medical services to Green Bank Elementary-Middle School students attending school in Pocahontas County, at the rate of $27 per hour for registered nurse and $22 per hour for licensed practical nurse, four days per week, excluding snow days, holiday and other days not in school, effective October 1, through the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

In professional management, the board approved the following:

• Employment of Dondi Stemple and E. Jamey Weber as after-school tutors at Marlinton Elementary School, effective September 13, 2017 through June 1, 2018, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, not to exceed 23 weeks. Position to be divided equally between two individuals.

• Employment of M. Gayle Boyette as academic interventionist at Marlinton Middle School, effective September 13, 2017 through May 25, 2018, at $20 per hour, three hours per day, as needed, not to exceed $7,000.

• Employment of Jennifer L. McCarty, Jessica McLaughlin and Teresa Rhea as after-school tutors at Marlinton Middle School, effective September 13, 2017 through June 1, 2018, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, not to exceed 23 weeks. Position to be divided equally among three individuals.

• Employment of Richard F. McLaughlin as assistant band director at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2017-2018 school year, at a supplement of $750.

• Employment of Cammy Kesterson, Jennifer Nail and Jeanette Wagner as extracurricular credit recovery teacher/after-school tutor at Pocahontas County High School, effective September 13, 2017 through June 1, 2018, two-and-a-half hours per day, four days per week, not to exceed 10 hours per week, at $20 per hour. Position to be paid for by Innovation Zone Grant. Position to be divided equally among three individuals.

• Employment of Holly N. Cunningham as after-school tutor of Pocahontas County High School, effective September 13, 2017 through June 1, 2018, at $20 per hour, two hours per day, not to exceed 23 weeks.

• Permission for superintendent to post and fill positions, as needed, prior to board approval from September 11 through October 1.

• Employment from preferred recalled list of Felicia L. Smith as itinerant special education classroom aide/ bus aide at Marlinton Middle School at state basic pay, retroactive to August 28, for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. Term of employment is 188 days. Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter.

• Employment of the following mentors

– Maria L. Hall mentoring Shonda Carr up to 50 hours at $20 per hour, not to exceed $1,000, during the 2017-2018 school year.

– Diane Delfino mentoring Krystal Sharek-Beers up to 50 hours at $20 per hour, not to exceed $1,000, during the 2017-2018 school year.

– Virginia Shaw mentoring Devan Simmons up to 20 hours at $20 per hour, not to exceed $1,000, during the 2017-2018 school year.

– Courtney Curran mentoring Emma Sculthorpe up to 20 hours, at $20 per hour, not to exceed $400, during the first semester of 2017-2018 school year.

• Employment of Brandy M. Cassell, Abby S. Cox, Susan K. Streisel and Marguerite H. Vosteen as substitute teachers for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay based on degree and experience.

• Employment of Jennifer L. McCarty and David W. Vanrosdale, Jr., as teachers of Homebound Instruction for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at $20 per hour.

• Employment of Amanda M. Buzzard, Dottie Chestnut, Morgan G. McComb and Tonya Warder as substitute aides for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Holly Beverage, Angela Bostic, Dottie Chestnut and Morgan G. McComb as substitute cooks for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Holly Beverage and Timothy Sacca as substitute custodians for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Morgan G. McComb as substitute maintenance for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Sherri Sparks-Francisco as substitute secretary/accountant for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Cory Rexrode as substitute school bus operator for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year, as needed, at state basic pay.

• Employment of Rosanne T. Zeni as after-school coordinator/career counselor/ tutor for Pocahontas County Schools, effective September 13, 2017 through June 1, 2018, at $25 per hour, eight hours per week, not to exceed 23 weeks.

• Educational sabbatical Nicole A. Dilley to complete student teaching requirements, effective January 8, 2018 for a term of 16 weeks.

The next Board of Education meeting is September 25, at 3 p.m., at Pocahontas County High School.
