Betty Hiner

Betty Jane Smith Hiner, of Waynesboro, Virginia, Saturday, September 20, 2014, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Born May 20, 1926, at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the third of five children to Amanda Keenan Smith and Robert Edward Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Hiner; and a sister, Esther Jean Smith.

She is survived by her children, Susan Rogers, and husband, Ted, Sallie Warren, and husband, S.S. Ward, Larry Hiner, and wife, Goldie, Jane Mangione, and husband, Rick, and Wendy Dodge, and husband, Hollis; sisters, Alice Wurzbacher and Twyla Langenberg; a brother, Robert Smith; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday, September 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton, Virginia. Memorial service Friday, September 26, 1 p.m at St. Michael’s United Church of Christ in Bridgewater, Virginia, with Rev. Hollis Dodge officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, the Salvation Army or St. Michael’s United Church of Christ.
