Batman is coming to school

October 18, 2018
in An Ounce of Prevention
0

We are excited to announce a special presentation by John Buckland, “Batman,” who is part of the “Heroes 4 Higher” Foundation. He is an awesome speaker who delivers the message to kids to “Be the Hero Against Drugs, Bullying and Violence.”

Batman’s presentation is in conjunction with the annual Red Ribbon Week, a prevention awareness campaign celebrated in schools across the country. Prevention awareness will be addressed through a bulletin board at each school, classroom guidance discussions, and drug prevention facts as part of each morning’s announcements. The drug prevention facts will be provided by SADD/RAZE students in middle and high school.

Pocahontas County School Counselors, along with Youth Health Services and the Pocahontas County Prevention Coalition, have planned an exciting week of events for all students.

October 22: Red Ribbon Kick-off: There will be a poster contest in each school that Batman will judge during his visit. He will choose one winner from each school. Students will have the opportunity to complete their posters at school, and they must be completed no later than Friday, October 26, to be posted in the hallways of the schools.

October 23: “Sock it to Drugs” Day: Students and staff are encouraged to wear mismatched or otherwise crazy socks.

October 24: “Don’t be Wacky, Stay Drug Free” Day: Students and staff are encouraged to wear “wacky” outfits – mismatched and silly.

October 25: “Don’t Let Drugs Turn You Inside Out” Day: Students and staff are encouraged to wear their clothes inside out.

October 26: “Red’y to Take a Stand” Day: Students and staff are encouraged to wear red to show their pledge to stay drug-free.

October 29: Batman will visit PCHS at 9 a.m. for a presentation and Red Ribbons will be provided by SADD. Elementary and middle schools will have “Heroes Against Bullying, Drugs and Violence” Day: Students and staff are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero.

October 30: Batman will visit Marlinton Middle, Marlinton Elementary and Green Bank Elementary/Middle schools. Red Ribbons will be provided by SADD.
