The Pocahontas County High School S Lady Warriors soccer team played three games last week and had one win and two losses. Summaries of these games are provided below:
September 12 – lost at Shady Spring
The Shady Spring Lady Tigers scored one goal in the first half and the Lady Warriors scored 0 for a halftime score of 1-0 Shady Spring. Neither team scored in the second half for a final score of 1-0 Shady Spring.
Lady Warrior shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Ramona Hardy, Eden Smith, Mileya Bircher, Riley Pollack, Brianna Cochran, Erin Rider and Mallori McCoy.
Defenders and midfielders Mackenzie Taylor, Elizabeth Friel, Pollack, Andrea Alderman and Kynlee Wilfong stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 25 times.
Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved six goals and allowed one.
September 14 – won vs Petersburg at PCHS
This was Senior Night and the team seniors are Andrea Alderman, Mileya Bircher, Elizabeth Friel and Kynlee Wilfong.
The Lady Warriors scored four goals in the first half and the Lady Vikings scored 0 for a halftime score of 4-0 Pocahontas.
Both teams scored one goal in the second half for a final score of 5-1 Pocahontas.
Lady Warrior scorers were forwards Mileya Bircher, Kynlee Wilfong, Brianna Cochran and Eden Smith and defender Andrea Alderman on a penalty kick.
Assists on these goals were from forwards and midfielders Ramona Hardy, Smith and Mallori McCoy.
Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Elizabeth Friel, McCoy, Miranda Gum, Riley Pollack, Hardy, Alexis Arbogast and Erin Rider.
Defenders and midfielders Alderman, Wilfong, Bircher, Jasey Kramer, Mackenzie Taylor, Ellena Bauserman, Riley Cassell and Baylee Nelson stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 38 times.
Goalkeepers Shayla Bennett and Wilfong saved six goals and allowed one.
September 16 – lost to Bluefield at PCHS
The Bluefield Lady Bea-vers scored two goals in the first half and the Lady Warriors scored 0 for a halftime score of 2-0 Bluefield. The Lady Beavers scored three more goals in the second half while the Lady Warriors remained scoreless for a final score of 5-0 Bluefield.
Lady Warrior shots on goal were were from forwards and midfielders Riley Pollack, Mileya Bircher, Jasey Kramer, Brianna Cochran and Allyson Taylor.
Defenders and midfielders Ramona Hardy, Kramer, Ellena Bauserman, Mackenzie Taylor, Andrea Alderman, Alexis Arbogast and Mallori McCoy stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 25 times.
Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved five goals and allowed five.
The team’s record is 5 wins, 2 ties, 5 losses.
