Jackie Clay Shields, age 76, of Killeen, Texas, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Killeen, Texas.
Born April 19, 1938, at Clover Lick, he was a son of the late Carl and Catherine Grimes Shields.
Jackie was retired from the United States Army in 1983 with the rank of Master Sergeant after serving 22 years, which included four years in the United States Marine Corps.
While on active duty, he earned the following ribbons and medals: Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 3; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one silver star and two bronze stars; Army Commendation Medal; Good Conduct Medal with one silver loop; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Humanitarian Service Medal; Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, First Class; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral four; and Meritorious Service Medal.
He retired from civil service at Fort Hood and retired from the United States Coast Guard after 22 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Shields; baby girl Shields; and a daughter, Cherri Gilbreath.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Shields; children, T. J., and wife, Cat, Ann and Frank; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Randal Shields, and wife, Judy, and Pastor Robert Shields, and wife, Pastor Betty Jean Shields; a sister, Carolyn Shields; three nieces; and five nephews.
Funeral service was at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen, Texas. Interment with Military Honors was in Killeen Memorial Park.
