James Robert Meck, age 66, of Cass, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his home.
Born March 7, 1948, at Buckhannon, he was a son of the late William Lester and Helen Estella Craig Meck.
James graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg in 1966, and then graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. In 1971, he married Mary “Karen” Comer.
His work career consisted of working in his mother’s family business, Craig Motor Company, starting at the age of 14 working after school, weekends and summers. He continued this work through college and a short period of time following marriage before starting his own woodworking trade in Buckhannon. In 1974, he and his wife moved to Pocahontas County. He continued his woodworking business known as Cass Woods. In 1982, he and his wife started Meck’s Home Bakery and continued this through 2008.
James will be remembered for his dedication to quality and perfection in each endeavor. James attended Boyer Hill Mennonite Church.
He was known by friends and family for his love of studying and discussing the Word of God.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary “Karen” Comer Meck; two sons, Jacob S. Meck, and wife, Malinda, and Amos R. Meck, and wife, Kelly, all of Green Bank; three daughters, Rachel E. Vance, and Hannah K. Totten, and husband, David, all of Marlinton, and Julia E. Yankey, and husband, Wesley, of Mt. Solon, Virginia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Autumn Vance, Jennalee Meck, Natalie Yankey and Timothy Yankey, and one on the way, expected in November. Four brothers, A. Craig Meck, and wife, Penny, of Wilmington, North Carolina, William “Bill” Meck, II, and wife, Kit Robinson, of Fair Hope, Alabama, Stephen Meck, and wife, Mary, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and David Meck, of High Point, North Carolina; and a sister, The Very Rev. Dr. Nancy E. Meck, and husband, Michael McCarthy, of Midlothian, Virginia.
The family would like to recognize Michael and Jason, of Marlinton, and Matt, Faye and Isaac Williamson, of Charleston, as a loved extension of the Meck family.
Funeral service was June 15 at the New Hope Church of the Brethren in Dunmore, with Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment was in the Arbovale Cemetery Annex.
