Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Moore and son, Jackie, spent Labor Day weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, with their son, James, who is a student at the Auto Diesel College there. He is on the honor roll. They also visited with Jerry Duncan and Kenneth McLaughlin, who are also students there.
Honey
Ollie Tacy, of Cass, brought us a quart of beautiful honey last week. The color looked just right – made from Basswood bloom. He said the Basswood bloom on the higher levels made a little lighter honey. We told him we had been reading a book on folk medicine and that it said two teaspoons of vinegar in a glass of water and four tablespoons of honey a day would keep you well or cure most anything. He said there was a community in Pennsylvania whose citizens all raised honey and they were the healthiest and lived the longest of any people in that area.
Boys and Girls in Service
Miss Ellen Schoolcraft, a 1967 graduate of Marlinton High School, has been accepted as a member of the Women’s Army Corps.
She left September 4 for a special ceremony in Charleston where she will be inducted into the Silver Anniversary Platoon WAC. From Charleston, she will fly to Fort McClellan, Alabama, where she will take her basic training. Ellen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James G. Schoolcraft, of Buckeye.
DEATHS
Guy Richard Faulknier, 77, of Marlinton; a son of the late James Anderson and Martha Faulknier. He was a former mayor of Marlinton, a charter member of the Marlinton Rotary Club, and had a great interest in the betterment and growth of his community. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
Forrest Wooddell, 73, of Green Bank; burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.
Clyde Vernon “Shorty” Vallandingham, 68, of Marlinton; a son of the late James C. and Loghancy Perry Vallandingham. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Verna Belle Hively, 82, of Frost; burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Gladys Lambert Funkhouser, 31, of Ports-mouth, Virginia, formerly of Boyer; burial in the Boyer Cemetery.
George W. Todd, 73, of Droop; a son of the late Edmund William and Lucy Hamrick Todd.
