Alfred Roger VanReenan, age 70, of Marlinton, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at his home.

Born November 2, 1946, at Campbelltown, he was a son of the late Alfred and Margaret Dunbrack VanReenan.

Roger was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the VFW and was of the Methodist faith.

He loved being around people and was known to all as a funny and warm “character.” He loved his memories of playing football (All American Honorable Mention) and hunting, but his greatest loves were his daughter and granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael VanReenan.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Glenda Cutlip VanReenan; a daughter, Jessica Martin, and husband, Adrian, and granddaughters, Bethany and Alyssa, all of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Gerald VanReenan, and fiancé, Donna, of Marlinton, and Donald VanReenan, and wife, Carol, of Ocean City, Maryland; three sisters, Patricia Friel, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Bobbie Beale, and husband, Lewis, of Marlinton, and Vonda Fineman, and husband, Warren, of Reno, Nevada; sister-in-law, Debra Crookshanks, of Buckeye; two brothers-in-law, Timothy Cutlip and Kenneth Cutlip, both of Marlinton; 16 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved bunches.

Per his request, the body was cremated and a memorial service to scatter his ashes will be held in the spring.

Memorials may be made to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, 150 Duncan Road, Buckeye, WV 24924; or Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, WV 26250.
