It looks like clean-up week in town this week. Mitchell Chevrolet is being painted white, the lower part of the Bank of Marlinton building is being painted white, as it the trim on the First National Bank. The C. J. Store painted their storefront orange. Also the house opposite the post office is being torn down.
The Marlinton Post office is getting a new furnace – oil – over the protests of Postmaster Ed Wagner. He feels they had been heating very economically with coal, a little over $200, and that coal is a vital element of West Virginia’s economy.
Our Boys and
Girls in Service
We have a newspaper clipping and picture showing Sgt. Larry Whiting on crutches doing the twist with a pretty hostess during a cruise on the Potomac for 500 hospitalized veterans. Larry lost a leg in Viet Nam. The cruise was hosted by Defense Secretary and Mrs. Robert McNamara. When McNamara was called to Capitol Hill, President and Mrs. Johnson came aboard for a surprise. The clipping was sent in by Basil Cain.
Visitors Center
The Visitors Center on Cranberry is going to be a most attractive addition to our County. Work is coming along fine. Curbing on the winding drive-way is being poured now. The shingled roof and the stonework on the corner columns of the buildings and circling the island of the drive give a distinctive look. Go see.
