4-H Women’s Basketball Day

All West Virginia 4-Hers, their families and friends are invited to attend a WV 4-H Women’s Basketball Day at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown  Saturday, February 8. The cost is $20 per person and includes a ticket to the WVU –  Kansas State Women’s Game, a 4-H hoodie and insurance. Registration deadline for this game is Friday, January 17.

If you would like to attend, send your check written to the WV 4-H Alumni Association and sweatshirt size to the Pocahontas County Extension Office, 900-E 10th Avenue, Marlinton WV 24954 before the deadline.

In the event of snow and you are unable to attend, there will be no snow date and no refunds will be made, but you will be sent your hoodie.

 

Energy Express

Opportunities

Energy Express service/employment opportunities are now available for the 2014 Marlinton Elementary Energy Express site for one site supervisor, four mentors and one community coordinator. To learn more about how to become involved or to request an employment application, call the WVU Pocahontas County Extension Office at 304-799-4852 or visit the Energy Express website at energyexpress.wvu.edu .  Application deadlines are February 18 for the site supervisor position, and March 1 for the mentor and community coordinator positions.

 

State Weekend Camps

All 4-Hers in grades six and up were sent a postcard about this year’s State Teen Leader Weekend and Dance Camp, including information about available county scholarships.  If you did not receive the postcard, call the Extension Office immediately so you can meet the registration deadlines.

 

Poster and Photo Contests

All entries in the county 4-H Poster and Photo contests are due in the Extension Office by January 31.  Contact your local 4-H club leader or the Extension Office for more information.

 

Bee Keepers inaugural meeting January 23

The WVU Extension Service has planned an educational meeting Thursday, January 23, 6 p.m. in the McClintic Library to organize local bee keepers and those interested in bee keeping.  Clay County Extension Agent Mike Shamblin will deliver a short educational presentation on bee keeping basics. Attendees will also be given information on hive registration and how to market their products.  Information will be gathered in hopes of forming a county bee keepers association.
