4-H Share the fun day

Pocahontas County 4-H will sponsor a Share the Fun Day Saturday, September 23, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the large pavilion at Stillwell Park. We will have a KIDS chili cook-off and cake decorating contest, face painting, carnival games, win a fish, dime toss, cakewalk and concession stand. A council circle will wrap up the afternoon with songs and s’mores. Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for children, with additional charges for some events. To enter the chili cook-off or cake decorating contest, contact Heather Simmons at 304-799-0527 for registration forms.
 
Achievement Night and Officers Training

All 4-Hers, leaders and families are invited to this year’s 4-H Achievement Night and Officers Training School which will be held at Pocahontas County High School on Tuesday, September 26. Pizza will be served in the PCHS cafeteria at 6 p.m., with the 4-H clubs supplying beverages and healthy snacks. Officers Training School and a Leaders Association Meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Achievement Night. There will also be activities and classes for 4-Hers who are not officers, and a 4-H project book expo for parents.

WVU Extension Master Gardener Program

The WVU Extension Service is currently taking sign-ups for the Master Gardener Training Program. The cost of the program is $85. The course will be held twice a week for 10 weeks to cover the full 40 hours of course work required. For more information on the program visit extension.wvu.edu/lawn-gardening-pests/master-gardener-program or if you’d like to sign-up please call the WVU Extension Office at 304-799-4852. If there is enough interest to plan the program for this fall a full class schedule will be released at that time.
 
Pocahontas Beekeepers

The Pocahontas Beekeepers Association will meet Thursday September 21, at 7 p.m. at the Community Wellness Center in Marlinton. For more information call the WVU Extension office at 304-799-4852.
