Educational

The Winter Educational Dinner Meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Marlinton Municipal Building.
Steve Woodruff, an agronomist at NRCS’s East National Technology Service Center in Greensboro North Carolina, has worked as a soil conservationist, district conservationist and state agronomist for North Carolina.  He assists states with cropland agronomy and grazing concerns, and provides training and information as part of our Soil Health Team.
Steve’s presentation will focus on the principles to follow to improve soil health and how improving soil health improves grazing systems.
Attendance at this meeting will also be worth three (3) pesticide applicator recertification credits for categories 11, 12 and PA.
To attend the meeting you must RSVP to the Pocahontas County Extension Office by calling 304-799-4852 by Friday March 13.
There will be a $3 charge to help cover the cost for those who want dinner.

4-H Earth Day
Challenge
In celebration of Earth Day, the Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring a contest among all Pocahontas County 4-H clubs to see which club can collect the most newspapers, magazines and catalogs (by weight) between March 6 and April 25.
Recycling one ton of paper can save 12 trees. Let’s see how many trees we can save.
Each club that collects at least 500 pounds will receive $50 for participating. In addition to the participation prize, the first-place club will receive an additional $150, second-place will receive $100, and third-place will receive $50. Winners will be announced on April 30.
Newspapers should be sorted separately from magazines/catalogs, and all the recyclables should be dry and clean.
