Winona R. Myers, age 51, of Midlothian, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 21, 2014, following a long battle with cancer.

Her indelible spirit, unwavering faith in God and infectious good humor made her an icon to everyone she knew.

Winona was married to her husband, best friend and first mate, Robert E. Myers for 28 years. They shared a love of boating which started with their first date 30 years ago.

Everyone who knew her also knew she would be at Smith Mountain Lake every weekend –– rain, shine or snow.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Council.

In addition to her husband, those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Joyce Council; sisters, Angela Velardi, and husband, Rob, Sonja Whitney, and husband, Bob, and Shelia Slayton, and husband, Stan; brother-in-law, Matthew Myers, and wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Vonnie O’Brien, and husband, Mike; extended family, Frank and Gaylene Royer; and several nieces and nephews. Special friends, Ollie and Ervin Brooks, Andrew and Donna Hiner, Gary and Elisa Norris, Judy and Dwain Leonard and everyone from Bayside Marina.

Funeral service was August 25 at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia, with Dr. Robert Fiedler officiating. Interment was private.

Memorials may be made to Thomas Palliative Care Unit, Attn: Ellie Coyne, General Fund, VCUHS Medical Center, PO Box 985934, Richmond, VA 23298.
