William Richard “Bill” Fitch, 76, of Dunmore, formerly of Falls Village, Connecticut, died Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Bill had a deep love of the woods, nature and wildlife. Growing up, he spent time on his grandfather’s farm, which instilled in him a strong work ethic. After working on dairy farms in Falls Village, Bill started working in the woods, logging, and eventually started his own business.
In 1998, he moved to West Virginia, with his wife, Karen, where they operated a sawmill and millwork shop until he retired. He spent his retirement years fishing, hunting, gardening, trapping and playing his banjo with his friends at every opportunity. He found his real peace and solace in the mountains of West Virginia.
Above all, he will be remembered for his big heart, generous spirit, his willingness to always lend a hand and to teach anyone who wanted to learn. Bill taught us all to live with patience, love and grace. He will be greatly missed and cherished in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his faithful four-legged companion, Missy; brother, Bert; sisters, Susan and Sally; sons, Scott, Isreal and Pete; daughters, Steph-anie, Kasey and Shanna; grandsons, Lucas and Logan; niece, Heather; nephews, Willie and Jay; and countless family members and friends whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Arbovale Community Center.
