William Burns

William Richard “Dick” Burns, age 75, of Hillsboro, died Friday, December 8, 2017.

Born April 21, 1942, in Charleston, he was a son of the late Ralph Hannah Burns and Myrl Agnes Killen Burns.

A native of Hillsboro, Dick was owner and operator of Ralph H. Burns & Son, Inc., a bulk transportation company, serving Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Dick was a proud graduate of Hillsboro High School and a life-long Red Devil. He was devoted to his community, and served on and supported numerous civic and social organizations throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Lynn Hodges Burns, December 4, 2017.

He is survived by a son, Ralph Warren Burns, and wife, Terrell, of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren, Warren Maverick Burns and Madeleine Abselle Burns.

A joint funeral service was held December 9 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Dick was laid to rest alongside his wife, Ruby, in Emmanuel Cemetery at Bruffey Creek.
