After the Lady Warriors’ big win at Dunmore March 7, many of the fans headed up Rt. 28 to Petersburg to watch the Warrior boys take on #1 seed Moorefield in a Region 2, Section 2 playoff game.
The Warriors jumped out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. However, the Yellowjackets outscored the Warriors 21-6 in the second.
Moorefield built a 50 – 30 lead with two minutes left in the third quarter. From that point on the Warriors went on the warpath and out-scored the Yellowjackets 28 – 10 for the rest of the game.
With 1:21 left, Cary Robertson hit a field goal to cut Moorefield’s lead to 54 – 53. Both teams added a bucket at 56 – 55 with 55 seconds left in the game.
The Warriors were heading toward their basket, but Tyler Smith stole the ball and put the Yellowjackets up 60 – 55.
J. D. Hensler swished a three as time ran out, 60 – 58, ended the valiant Warrior effort.
Hensler had a great game with 22 points.
Point guard Cary Robertson had 10 with seven in the critical fourth quarter.
Dalton Irvine muscled up seven.
Juniors Braxton Rider and Chad Friel came off the bench and added six points each.
Seniors Adam Irvine and Stephen Mick both had a bucket. The Warriors will play Notre Dame at Clarksburg Wednesday, March 18, at 7 p.m.
