Warren L. Shears, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Born February 17, 1941, in Arbovale, he was a son of the late Bernard and Hazel Shears.
Warren lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a deep appreciation for simple, lasting joys.
Warren worked at GE for many years, doing anything and everything from assembly to maintenance. As the story was often told with a dry, knowing wit, he came to do what he considered the most important work of all – carrying around a broom. It was a fitting reflection of his practical nature and the dignity he found in showing up, pitching in, and taking care of what needed to be done.
Outside of work, Warren took pride in caring for his lawn, tending it with the kind of patience and attention that spoke to his steady character. He also valued friendship and routine, enjoying games of pool with friends every Wednesday and Friday. Most of all, he treasured traveling with his wife, Elizabeth, sharing miles, memories and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford and Rosa Gillispie; and Luther and Sadie Shears; brother, Wallace Shears; and sister, Vicky Shears.
Warren is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Decker Shears; son, Ron Shears, and wife, Angie; daughter, Lynnette Shears Lang; grandchildren, Tiffany Mann (Jonah), Connor Shears, Hannah Lang, Jacob Shears, Jared Shears and Nathan Lang; great-grandchildren, Gracee Mann and Adalynn Mann; and siblings, Willard Shears, Charlotte Shears Ervine, Randall Shears and George Shears.
A funeral service will be held at Schoppenhorst Funeral and Cremation Services in Louisville, Kentucky, with burial in McGrew Cemetery in Anneta, Kentucky.
