Thomas David “TJ” Shafer Jr., age 30, of Seebert, passed away Saturday December 22, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born January 5, 1988, in Fairlea, he was the son of Glenda Pyles Morgan, and husband, Aaron, of Stafford, Virginia, and the late Thomas “Tommy“ Shafer.
TJ graduated from Pocahontas County High School in 2006. He was previously employed by Denmar Correctional Center and Edray Fish Hatchery. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, canoeing and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncles, Dee Pyles and Dustin Wilfong.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Kristen Kershner, and husband, David, of Hillsboro; half-brother, Hunter Shafer, of Green Bank; step-siblings, Brittney Morgan and Taylor Morgan, both of Stafford, Virginia, and Samantha Morgan of Tempe, Arizona; maternal grandparents, Curtis and Irene Pyles, of Seebert; step-grandparents, Austin and Barbara Morgan, of Seebert; paternal grandparents, Christine and Kenneth Wilfong, of Buckeye, and Tom and Carolyn Shafer, of Marlinton; aunts Kelley Goldizen, and husband, Jason, of Marlinton, and Pam Shafer, of Georgia; uncles, Steve Hall, of Virginia, and Kenneth Morgan, of Maryland; and several cousins.
Memorial service was held December 29 at Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye with Pastor Pete Scott officiating.
