Donald Akers

Donald G. Akers, age 88, of Doylestown, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2018, at his home.

Born 1930 in Marlinton, he was a son of the late William and Ethel Higgins Akers.

Donnie had been a resident of Doylestown, Ohio, since 1991, and previously lived in Buckeye.

A veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Marines, Donnie was a retired Ironworker with Local #17 in Cleveland, Ohio. He enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, fishing, and running coon and rabbit dogs, which he raised over the years.

Donnie also loved to travel with his wife, JoAnn, to Colorado, Wyoming and Montana to camp and fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Faye Bell Akers; a sister, Marian Beatty; brothers, Paul, Leslie, and Kermit; and stepdaughter, Teresa Magyar.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, JoAnn; children, Theresa (Michael) Watson, of Bellingham, Washington, Laura (Harlan) Dean, of Deming, Washington, Daniel (Crystal) Akers, of Buckeye, and Jennifer (William) George, of Ucross, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Linda Gundersen, of Doylestown, Ohio; step-son, Patrick (Joan) Farrell, of Navarre, Ohio; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Marty) Riddle, of Cedar Hill, Texas; and nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A private service will be held by the family.
