Thomas Anthony Roat, 71, passed away February 23, 2025.
Born April 11, 1953, he was a son of the late Ronald and Edith Roat.
Tom grew up in Cincinnati Ohio, and graduated from LaSalle High School Class of 1971, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University, and his Master’s from the University of Cincinnati.
He was a resident of West Virginia from 1981 until 1997 when he moved with his family to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Tom returned to Beverly in 2010. From the early days of Snowshoe Ski Resort, he provided business and financial management to many of the condominium associations and other businesses on the mountain. He also served on the ski patrol, becoming the first Snowshoe patroller to pass the patrol test on telemark skis. He also volunteered for the Shavers Fork Fire Department.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman, starting as a guide on the New and Gauley Rivers in the 1980s with Class VI River Runners. He loved to fish, paddle, ski and shoot, and share stories around a campfire. As much as Tom loved all things outdoors, his love for his family and friends ran even deeper. Tom’s memory will be cherished by many.
He is survived by his children, Cyrus (Stevie) Roat and Meredith (Eric Buck) Roat; granddaughter, Louise Roat; siblings, Barbara Probst, Steve (Kim) Roat, and Beth Osgood; three nephews; four nieces; and six great-nephews and-nieces.
The family will host an open house Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League, off Files Creek Road in Beverly.
There will be another celebration of Tom’s life in Cincinnati in the spring.
The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of the arrangements for Thomas Anthony Roat.
