Stanley Vandevander

Stanley Vandevander, age 84, of Boyer, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, at Pocahontas Center.

Born August 15, 1929, at Boyer, he was a son of the late Thomas Eston and Marcella Calhoun Vandevander.

Stanley was a member of the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. He retired from Howes Leather Company in Frank and was an Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Vandevander; step-mother, Iva Mae Hedrick Vandevander; five brothers, Harry, Lake, Gerald, Arthur and John Eston Vandevander; and four sisters, Christine Virginia Vandevander, Catherine Marie Beverage, Helen Ward and Mary Mollie Shinaberry.

He is survived by four sisters, Annalee Tracy, of Arbovale, Rebecca Moses, of Beverly, Frances Bennett, and husband, Brooks, of Cass, and Sylvia Mitchell, of Clera, Alabama; and three brothers, Arnold Vandevander, and wife, Doris, of Monterey, Virginia, Ray Vandevander, and wife, Cathy, of Arbovale, and William Vandevander, and wife, Gail, of Florida.

Funeral service Tuesday, December 31, 1 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastor Julian Rittenhouse officiating. Interment with Military Rites by the Pocahontas County Honor Guard will be in the Arbovale Cemetery. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
