Down on the McClintic Farms on Swago, one day last week, Wayne Jackson killed a golden eagle. It had a wing spread of eight feet and eight inches. It was a crack shot at better than three hundred yards. The big bird was a lamb killer and eater, with wool in his claws and beak and lamb in his craw.

GOLDEN HORSESHOE WINNERS
The following pupils are hereby certified as winners of the Golden Horseshoe for Pocahontas County in the statewide test given May 5, 1950: Mary Jarvis Currence, Marlinton High School; Nancy Ward Currence, Marlinton High School; Nancy Yeager, Marlinton High School; and Phillip Stewart, Greenbrier Hill School.
FARM WOMEN
The annual Spring meeting of the Farm Women’s Clubs of Pocahontas County was held at Green Bank High School last Saturday. There were present 119 members and 10 visitors. Only four clubs failed to have representatives. The theme was “Yesterday’s work for tomorrow’s need.”
A feature was the style show of cotton dresses, with scores of ladies taking part. Exhibits outnumbered any previous annual meeting.
4-H FIELD DAY
Sixteen of the 22 4-H Clubs of Pocahontas County were represented by 360 members at the annual Field Day at Green Bank athletic field on Saturday.
Clubs with 25 or more were in A group and those with less than 25 were in B group. In group A, Buckeye Winners topped all with 1,760 points; Green Bank Merry Wigglers, Jr., second with 1,625 points, and Green Bank Merry Wigglers, Sr., third with 1,475 points.
In B Class, the Hornets of Marvin Chapel were first with 1,775 points, and Lobelia, second, with 1,550 points, and Back Alleghany Rooters third, with 1,455 points.
DURBIN GRADED SCHOOL
Congressman Harley O. Staggers will be the commencement speaker for the graduation of the Durbin Graded School.

Mr. Luther Poling, Director of Athletics, Marshall College, will deliver the address for the commencement exercises of the Cass Graded School.

DEATHS
Edward Summers McClure, 77, of Dunbar, a native of Pocahontas County and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James A. McClure. He was married to Miss Lula Boblett, and they had seven children… Miss Katherine McClure is a granddaughter.

Mrs. Maggie Lou Rexrode, aged 70 years, died at her home in Bartow May 5, 1950. On Sunday afternoon, the funeral was held from Bartow Methodist Church with burial in Boyer Cemetery.
