Samuel Cleveland Cassell, age 76, formerly of Cass, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton. Sam had been a resident of nursing homes since 2009.
Born September 7, 1938, in Cass, he was a son of the late James B. Cassell and Edna Cook Cassell.
Sam served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy. He worked for 19 years at Howe’s Leather Company until its closing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Tallman Cassell; a son, Timothy W. Cassell; a brother, Lloyd Cassell; and two sisters, Eula Ervine and Laura Dean.
He is survived by his daughter, Edwina Garber, and husband, Mike; a son, Ryan Cassell; granddaughter, Erica Arbogast; grandson, Brandon Cassell; great-grandsons, Brayden Smith and Caleb Smith; and two sisters, Ellen Garr, and husband, Glenn, of Tennessee, and Phyllis Starks, of North Carolina.
Funeral service was August 15 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Rev. David Fuller officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the Pocahontas County Honor Corps was in Bethel Cemetery on Back Mountain near Durbin.
