Robert D. “Bob” Gold-izen, age 68, of Marlinton, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at his home.

Born May 10, 1946, at Petersburg, he was a son of the late Sampson “Buzz” and Gladys Rebecca Hesse Goldizen.

Bob was a member of the Marlinton Church of God, where he served for many years as trustee and church clerk. He was a United States Marine Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired electrician from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

Bob loved babysitting the children and helping others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Goldizen and Linda Barlow; and a brother, Larry Goldizen.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen Wilfong Goldizen; three special family members and their children, Jonathan Hicks, and wife, Ashley, and their children, Madilyn, Carrigan and Amelia, all of Marlinton, Jason Hicks, and companion, Kelley Fletcher, and his son, Jarrett, of Sistersville, and Angie Hicks, and companion, Tim Sacca, and her daughter, Emma, of Palmyra, New Jersey; a sister, Shirley Biller, and husband, Dale, of Finksburg, Maryland; five brothers, Donald Goldizen, and wife, Polly, of Beverly, James Goldizen, and wife, Sissy, Rev. Fred Goldizen, and wife, Barbara, Jack Goldizen, and companion, Loretta Irvine, and Paul Goldizen, and wife, Ann, all of Marlinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was November 8 at the Marlinton Church of God on Beard Heights with Rev. Fred Goldizen officiating. Interment was in the Cochran Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.
