Edwin Carter was the second son born of Lloyd Burton and Susannah Jane Auldridge Carter on a small farm near Woodrow. His siblings were Marvin Clark Carter, Alva Dennis Carter and Annie May Carter. Edwin Carter became a skilled carpenter and settled in Chapmanville, Logan County, W.Va. There he married Ruth Chapman and they had two children, Robert E. and Helen.
