Edna Good May was born in Marlinton September 23, 1907. Her parents, Ransom Cassidy and Myrtle Good May, had moved from Staunton, Virginia, to Marlinton in February when he became the bookkeeper for the C&O Railroad. She was a sister to Edith Elizabeth and Clarence Washington May. Edna graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory in Public School Music then taught music in Berkeley Springs. She returned to Marlinton and taught at Marlinton Elementary School. In 1932 she married John Trimble Bear, Jr. and they had one child, John Trimble Bear, III, born in 1935. She was an active member of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church, the Marlinton Woman’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star and the Pocahontas County Historical Society.
