Thanks to Neal Krakover for reminding us of the 100th Anniversary of a great piece of railroad history on the Greenbrier Division of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. On May 4, 1925, a northbound freight train was approaching the bridge across the Greenbrier River at Watoga, near Seebert, when a boxcar derailed. The car, loaded with brick, bounced along the railway ties and hit the edge of the bridge causing one entire span to plummet into the river. There were no injuries. The photograph shows the aftermath as a loader attempts to remove the cars from the river. A new historical marker is located at the site on the Greenbrier River Trail.
