
Celebrating Women’s History Month. Jane Price Sharp, Editor Emerita of The Pocahontas Times, receiving the Adam R. Kelly Premier Journalist Award in 1995. This is the most prestigious award presented by the West Virginia Press Association of which she had served as President in 1967. Jane Sharp presided over The Pocahontas Times for more than 50 years beginning in 1957 following the death of her father and editor Calvin W. Price.
She served several terms on the Marlinton Town Council, was appointed to an unexpired term in the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1989, was a member of the Marlinton Chamber of Commerce, and served as co-chair of the Pocahontas County Planning Commission. She was a founding member of the Pocahontas County Historical Society, member and president of the Marlinton Woman’s Club, served the Marlinton Presbyterian Church as a Deacon and ordained Elder, and was a Life Member of the Women of the Church.
Jane Stobo Price was born in Marlinton on October 4, 1919 to Calvin Wells and Mabel Milligan Price. She married Basil Clair Sharp, and they had three children: Basil Price Sharp, John Calvin Sharp and Jane Rutledge Sharp. Her husband was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and died December 23, 1944 near Niederschlettenbach, Germany. Jane Price Sharp died September 27, 2015.
