Basil Clair Sharp was born in Frost, W.Va. June 28, 1914, the son of Ernest Gilmer and Mary Jordan Sharp. He was a graduate of Marlinton High School and Davis & Elkins College. He and his wife, Jane Price, had three children, Basil Price, John Calvin and Jane Rutledge. He was a coach and teacher at Hillsboro High School for four years before joining the Army during World War II. Basil Clair Sharp was wounded and died December 23, 1944 near Niederschlettenbach, Germany, while serving with the 180th Infantry, 45th Division of the Seventh Army.
