Chili Cook-Off supports Wellness Center

Pocahontas Memorial Hospital employees love to have fun and they love good food. Both were in plentiful supply Tuesday, January 28, as the hospital held its Second Annual Employee Chili Cook-Off.

The Cook-Off was organized last year by the Marketing and Outreach Committee in an effort to raise money for the Pocahontas County Community Wellness Center. Lauren Bennett, Roger Trusler and Cookie Doss from the Wellness Center were guest judges for the event and at the end of the day were presented with $110. The money was raised by charging $2 for a ticket to taste all the entries and vote for the People’s Choice Chili recipe.

The competition was fierce this year and many remarked that it was difficult to pick a clear favorite. Competing entries included: Mardi Gras Chili, prepared by the PMH Lab, represented by Joyce Doss, Kathy Irvine and Michael Stewart; Cowherdin’ Chili, prepared by Susan Wilkins; PeniCHILIn Chili, by pharmacist Kari Cooper; Chicken Taco Chili, by RNC LPN Michelle Workman; and Rampy Grampy Chili, prepared by physical therapist Tom Melko.

After much sampling, the Judges’ Choice was awarded to Mardi Gras Chili and People’s Choice was awarded to PeniCHILIn Chili.
