Pocahontas Memorial Hospital’s Health Fairs began April 25 and will conclude in just one week on June 1.  During the six weeks of health fairs, staff travels to 16 different locations throughout the county, from Hillsboro to Durbin.  These health fairs have been an important part of the community’s healthcare for more than 25 years.  If you have not yet taken advantage of a health fair, please make plans to attend one of our last sites in the coming week.

As a result of the health fairs throughout the years, dozens of critical health conditions have been discovered for the first time, such as anemia and low blood cell counts, thyroid issues, leukemia, diabetes, high lipids, bleeding disorders and prostate cancers.

The Executive I screening ($25) covers practically every organ in the body and includes testing for cardiac, liver, cholesterol, hematology, thyroid function and electrolytes.  Men are also able to include a PSA, or Prostate Specific Antigen test ($5).  Other blood tests include an A1C ($15) and a Vitamin D ($25).

In addition, radiology staff offers a Bone Density test ($10) and free facial screenings for cancer spots. All tests are offered at hugely discounted rates.

Results from the blood screenings are mailed to your home in about a week and, upon request, will also be provided to your regular healthcare provider.  New this year, results are available online by creating an account on the LabCorp Patient Portal.  You can go ahead and sign up today by logging on to https://patient.labcorp.com.

A full schedule of sites and times is located in this newspaper on page 13 and also on our website at www.pmhwv.org.
