Recognizing “Donate Life” month at PMH
Pocahontas Memorial Hospital will host a “Donate Life” flag raising ceremony Tuesday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m. in front of the hospital. PMH encourages you to join them for this event to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. A community Lunch and Learn will be held around noon in the hospital dining room. If you would like to attend the luncheon, RSVP by calling Susan at 304-799-7400 ext. 1009 by Friday, April 4.
Nationally, 100,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant, including nearly 500 in the state of West Virginia. Across the country, someone is added to the transplant waiting list every eight minutes.
This year, PMH has partnered with the Center for Organ Recovery and Education to help save lives by educating our community about the importance of or-gan, eye and tissue donation and increasing the number of registered donors.
Visit www.donatelifewv.org to learn more about donations and how to register. Do not be discouraged by your age or past medical history – anyone can be a potential donor. Talk with your family about your decision to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor. Finally, tell others about the need in our community, and how every person can make a difference. One person has the potential to save eight lives through organ donation and enhance 50 more through cornea and tissue donation.
