Warriors win fourth in a row

BBBVan001smThe Pocahontas County High School Warriors hosted the Van Bulldogs at Warrior Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs played hard and kept the game close in the first half. But the Warriors dominated in the final two periods to secure a 69-48 victory.

Both teams came out with a fast-paced game and Van outscored Pocahontas in the second period, 15-12, to make it a six-point game at the half. But the Warriors soundly outmatched the Bulldogs in the second half to win their fourth in a row.

PCHS junior J.D. Hensler led both teams with 24 points and also snagged 7 rebounds. Junior Dalton Irvine notched his fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 18 BBBVan002smrebounds.

The Warriors improved to 5-2 with the win. Van, who defeated Pocahontas last season, dropped to 1-6.

A Tuesday night home game against Tygarts Valley will be reported in next week’s edition.

The Warriors play the Moorefield Yellowjackets at Warrior Coliseum on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Jackets are currently 5-2, with their two losses coming at Class AA Frankfort and at Class 2A Strasburg, Virginia. Moorefield defeated Pendleton County by 10 points on December 26. The Warriors defeated Pendleton by four 10 days earlier.

On Saturday, the Warriors travel to Summers County to challenge the 3-3 Bobcats. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
