Phillip Cameron Dean, Sr., 82, of Marlinton, peacefully passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home.
Born September 29, 1942, at Marlinton, he was a son of the late Alonzo George Dean, Sr. and Creola Marie Sharp.
Phillip was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served in Greenland from 1961 to 1963. He was a coalminer, carpenter, electrician and jack-of-all trades. In his spare time, he spent countless hours in the woods, at shooting ranges, and helping in his community. He helped build the Marlinton Masonic Lodge and the music room addition to Marlinton Elementary School.
He was a member of Marlinton Masonic Lodge #127, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and West Virginia Electricians.
He is survived by his children, Phillip “P.C. Dean, Jr. and Tonya “Shelley” Hartmann; grandchildren, Jensen Dean, Olivia Dean, Gavin Hartmann, Genna Hartmann and Gwen Hartmann; great-granddaughter, Lakyn Dunbrack; and siblings, Creola Jane Dean Dunmire and Alonzo George Dean, Jr.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at VanReenen Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at Dean’s Hill Cemetery with John Paul Burks officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m.
