The Pocahontas County High School soccer teams ended the season on a high note with the girls having a final record of 9-6 and the boys, 9-8. Both teams competed in sectionals and both fell to Charleston Catholic during sectional play – the boys in the second round and the girls in the championship.

Seniors Makenna McKenney, Allyson Alderman and Macaden Taylor and juniors Emma Riffe and Kelsi Taylor were named All State Honorable Mention and Region 3, Section 2 first team.

Macaden Taylor was also selected to compete in the North-South game at Charleston.

“I was on the South team,” she said. “We won 4-0. We played twenty-minute quarters, and I played forty minutes total. It was fun.”

Taylor said she knew several girls on the team as she had competed against them during the season, but enjoyed being on the same team with them for the day.

The boys also had several rankings at the end of the season.

Senior Shawn Beverage and junior Max O’Ganian were named All State Honorable Mention and Region 3, Section 2 first team. Junior Holden Sharp and sophomore Jeremie Mick were named Region 3, Section 2 second team.

Beverage said the season went well and the team managed to come out with a winning record.

“It was better than we thought,” he said. “We had a young team. A lot of them hadn’t played soccer before.”

Both teams are coached by Shannon Alderman and assistant coach Justin Dilley.
