PCHS Golfers are young and talented

Pocahontas County High School golfers competed in the West Virginia Boys High School Golf Tournament October 2 and 3. In a field of 40, David Gibb, left, placed third, and Gareth Ryder, right, placed sixth. They are pictured with their coach, Jerry Ryder.

Pocahontas County High School Golf team members Gareth Ry-der and David Gibb earned spots in the West Virginia Boys High School Golf Tournament. The tournament was held October 2 and 3 at Olgleby Park Golf Course in Wheeling.

Gibb placed third in individual competition with scores of 77 and 80 for a total of 157.

Ryder placed sixth with scores of 82 and 80 for a total of 162.

Derrick Harrison, of Wheeling Central, took first with scores of 75 and 77 for a total of 152.

Ryder and Gibb are freshman at PCHS and were both named to the All State Golf Team.

Jerry Ryder is the Golf Coach.

Pendleton Community Bank’s Marlinton Financial Center made a commitment to the young golfers by buying ad space in the tournament program.
