Milford Merl Shifflett, age 78, of Bayard, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at his residence.
Born May 21, 1936, in Staunton, Virginia, he was a son of the late John Milford and Annie Ethel Graham Shifflett.
Mr. Shifflett retired as a supervisor from Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the Bayard United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed working on and driving all types of cars, trucks and motorcycles, but his one true passion in life was tractor-trailers – the “big rigs.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Shifflett.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Sue VanReenen Shifflett; a son, Milford Merl Shifflett, II, of Bayard; two brothers, Paul Shifflett and Bill Shifflett, both of Craigsville; and a grandson, David Shifflett, of Capon Bridge.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, at 1 p.m. at the Bayard United Methodist Church, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home and Crematory in Keyser.
