Mike Kane passed away from pneumonia Wednesday, April 30, 2024, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was a 1967 graduate of Green Bank High School, attended Gannon College in Erie, Pennsylvania, on a basketball scholarship and later transferred to Concord University in Athens.

As owner and operator of Coca-Cola bottling companies in both Marlinton and Elkins, he spent many years delivering Coca-Cola products throughout the area. He later worked for the Pocahontas County Assessor’s Office.

Mike’s most enjoyable and fulfilling occupation was his love for coaching basketball. In his more than 20 years of coaching, he emphasized the fundamentals of the game. His coaching career led him to Pocahontas County High School where he was head coach for the Lady Warriors. He was so excited and proud to take his team to the state basketball tournament for the third time in 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Odessa Kane; and infant granddaughter, Chloe Nicole Kane, of Green Bank.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith; son, John Michael Kane IV, and wife, Melissa, of Green Bank; daughter, Kristy Rhea, and husband, Matt, of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and sister, Karen Arbogast, of DuBois, Pennsylvania. Mike was proud of his three grandsons, Michael Kane, Cooper Rhea and Brody Rhea.

The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2024, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale.

Interment was in Arbovale Cemetery.

Donations may be made in memory of Coach Kane to the PCHS girls basketball team by sending to Pocahontas County High School, Kim Rao, 271 Warrior Way Dunmore, WV 24934-9708.
Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
