Mary Beard

Mary Alice Young Beard, age 87, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Woodhaven Nursing Home in Blue Ridge, Virginia.

Born January 18, 1927, at Lewisburg, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Hern Young.

Mary Alice was a homemaker, a member of the Farm Bureau, Farm Women and Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, where she was a life member of the Women of the Church, and played the organ and piano for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Blough; and a sister, Julia Mann.

She is survived by her husband, W. Sherman Beard; daughters, Kathryn Ryniak, and husband, Dennis, of Boswell, Pennsylvania, and E. Lynn Beard Sigmon, and husband, Marvin, of Danville, Virginia; a son, William S. Beard, Jr., and wife, Barbara, of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Matthew Blough, and wife, Lynn, Sarah Boggs, and husband, Todd, Steven Beard and Ryne Sigmon; and a great-grandchild, Madelyn Blough.

Funeral service was October 18 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church with Pastor Andy Rice officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
