Residents are wondering about trash pickups while the Town is working on trash trucks.
Last Wednesday was one of those days.
The newer KW trash truck, which usually has the diesel emissions fluid (DEF) issues, chose to bust a hydraulic cylinder. We removed the cylinder and sent it to a shop in Craigsville for repair. The cylinder was past being repaired, so a cylinder was ordered, and we are waiting for a replacement delivery, as of this writing.
In the meanwhile, we fired up the extra truck, and it decided to develop a leak in the fuel system and was operating in a limp mode (not much above an idle). The men managed to get it back to the shop, were unable to finish Wednesday’s garbage route.
At this point, we were getting behind both residential and commercial pickups.
On Thursday, the extra truck was repaired and put into service. The men were able to fill the truck with garbage before it broke down the second time (or was it the third time).
After calling other local mechanics, Jacob Meck sent a mechanic with a computer diagnostic scanner that identified a malfunctioning sensor that would have to be replaced. Now, we are waiting for the delivery of said sensor.
With this breakdown, we lost all of Friday’s garbage route and if the sensor would have arrived, we would have worked Saturday to catch up. But, no sensor arrived. Now, we are more than a little behind.
Do not forget. The extra truck is still broken down and full of trash. The landfill was closed Monday, October 12.
When the repair is complete, we will have to go to the landfill and dump before the men can start picking up again. That means a late a.m. on Tuesday morning, at the earliest.
I am hoping this will be old news by the time you read this. But now you know.
Sam
