In honor of a Legacy of Service, the refurbishment and renaming of the former mini-park on First Avenue was done in honor of a friend to Marlinton and Pocahontas County.
Last Friday, Roger Trusler’s brother, A.G. Trusler, made the opening remarks. Senators Hamilton and Morris spoke next and were followed by additional remarks from others in attendance. The former mini-park will now be known as The Roger L. Trusler Memorial Park.
Family and friends of Roger’s came from Buckhannon and Upshur County for the dedication, which was attended by approximately 65 people and made possible through the generous support of the following donors; The A.G. Trusler family, The Snowshoe Foundation, Senator Bill Hamilton, Senator Robbie Morris, The Pocahontas Retired Teachers Association, The Marlinton Lions Club. Individuals Jay Knicely, Jonelle Lowe, Earl Michael, Sandra Thacker, and a list of volunteers who donated time and talent to the project. Each is listed on a plaque at the new pavilion site.
The dedication was blessed with a perfect weather day, and the newly planted shrubbery provided the perfect finishing touch.
Together, the ceremony, the gathering of family and friends, and the finishing touches to the park made the dedication a fitting tribute to Roger L. Trusler.
