With landscaping and a walkway yet to be completed, the time and date for the dedication of the Roger L. Trusler Memorial Park on First Avenue is set for July 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a reminder to mark your calendar. The public is invited.

From day one, the park upgrade has been a project of unity. The significant donations from Roger’s family and the Snowshoe Foundation grant, along with other donations have made this facility possible.
One Snowshoe Foundation board member told me this award was an easy decision. Everyone knew and loved Roger. They were aware of his many contributions to the county – further evidence that his dedication to the community had not gone unnoticed.
The other extraordinary fact has been the several volunteers who stepped forward and offered their construction expertise toward planning the layout, preparing a materials list, and doing the finished concrete work.
Even though their work happened last summer, I want to again recognize the several New River Electrical employees who volunteered their time: Travis Workman, Morgan Baldwin, Angelo Jiordano, Craig Hamons, Preston Beverage, Dakota Sheets, Jake Bennett, and other volunteers Caleb and Koda Diller, Jamie Kellison and John Beale.
NRE is in Cloverdale, Virginia, but has numerous employees who live in this county. I believe two or three of the men work for other companies. Each are skilled in their professional trades and the volunteering of their time and talents contributed to the remaking of the park’s new look.
Another Thank You goes to Lucas Faulknier, whose company will be finishing the concrete walk entrance from the street. The new pavilion sits on a 16’ x 32’ pad, with a four-foot extension, fronting First Avenue.
Grants and donations are great. But time is the most precious gift of all. Thanks again to all the volunteers for their time and talents. Together, you have made THE difference.
This park will be used and seen by many and is worthy of the name change.
