Continued from last week:
At the March Marlinton Town Council meeting, council voted to work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, so far as we can, to provide additional dumpsters for trash and agreed to allow overflow camping in the area at the north end of Stillwell Park. Specifically, this is the grassy area between the large pavilion and the gate, at the north end of the field, and NOT in the park itself. Overflow parking for the Monday Lick Trail Grand Opening event will be in this area.
Also, this same area will be used, as a courtesy, for overflow camping. The Town will not be responsible for any damages, as a result of this overnight camping courtesy. The Town does encourage all visiting campers to fill the surrounding camping venues first. Commercial camping spaces provide utilities. The Town’s intention is not to compete with private businesses, but to be available, as a courtesy, for the overflow of tents and campers. Campers should not expect the convenience of water, sewer or electric hook-ups.
In closing, Pocahontas County is blest to have an active and experienced Convention and Visitors Bureau staff committed to planning such county events. The Town looks forward to the positive change this new trail will add to our region.
