Marlinton Mayor’s Corner

July 3, 2024
in Mayor's Corner

From the Mayor’s perspective, The Great American Bar Scene and Album Release went as well as could be expected. Approximately three weeks of setup planning was not nearly enough time for this type of event, but Danny Flores, of Old Mountain Tavern, managed to pull off this extraordinary block party in record time. Even the Zach Bryan management team, who attended the event, were impressed by the celebration that took place in Marlinton on Saturday.

The Zach Bryan media team came to support the event which was live streamed by his top management and media. Drones in the sky produced amazing pictures that hopefully will be shared later. The event was very exciting for Marlinton with national exposure of the Old Mountain Tavern. The extra effort by all involved, out shined the other bars chosen to be a part of Zach Bryan‘s album release.

Danny pulled out all the stops in set-up for the event. A horse-drawn carriage provided rides, approximately 50 bikers showed up as part of a poker run, and the family friendly atmosphere included corn hole and pool tables in the streets, that kids and families were able to enjoy.

According to Jim Campbell, a semi-retired professional events planner, the event went off with only a few minor glitches. Jim’s career in event planning, lighting and sound contributed to the event’s overall success. He concluded it was great exposure for Marlinton and will benefit future tourism growth. Also, Jim shared his feeling that a lot of people stepped up to volunteer, on short notice, to help make this happen. It really showed what can happen when approximately 40 community volunteers come together to help a local business leader and help their town step up for a very unique opportunity. Danny Flores estimated that visitors numbered at between 1,500 and 2,000 over the 11-hour event. People came from all over the state and several from out of state. There were many positive compliments. Kids playing. Super good. A real treat for all involved. All merchandise, and Almost-Heaven BBQ, sold out by end of day.

BTW – Happy 248th Birthday, America.

You still look great – for the shape you are in.
