PCHS senior Dalton Irvine races around left end to score on the first play of the fourth quarter. The bigger Man Hillbillies overpowered Pocahontas, 38-10.

The Man Hillbillies swooped into Pocahontas County Friday night and treated their hosts like a bunch of revenuers.

The #7-ranked Billies overpowered Pocahontas with greater numbers and  size. The offensive play-calling and execution for Man was nearly flawless.

The Warriors managed two drives to get deep into Hillbilly territory, but one was wasted with a lost fumble on the Man 25 yard line. Another was turned into points on the first play of the fourth quarter, when Dalton Irvine outran a 6’6″ defensive end, got around the left side, and crossed the goal line at the pylon. Irvine ran right and scored a two-point conversion by reaching across the goal line with the ball as he went down. But the game was out of reach at that point for the Warriors. The late score made it 30-8 for Man – still out of reach – but the Warriors did well to avoid the shutout. Man answered with another TD and two-pointer to make it 38-8. The Hillbilly offense botched a snap late in the game, which rolled out of the end zone for a safety, adding two points to the PCHS total.

Check back later for video highlights of the game. See Thursday’s print edition for a full game report and stats from Mike Simmons.
