Is it spring yet?
I don’t like to wish time away, because some day I’m going to wish I had more time, but I am ready for more sun, warmer breezes, and less snow!
In addition to reading good books to help pass the time, our libraries have some fun events coming up that you might be tempted to check out.
The Friends of the Hillsboro Library are holding the third annual Scrabble Tournament on Sunday, March 8, at the Hillsboro Public Library. Start at 2 p.m. with tea and dazzle folks with your word skills on the Scrabble board. Pay $1 at the door, and have a chance to win the pot and a beautiful trophy. This tournament is held in memory of Norma Mikesell, who is still greatly missed by us all. My Scrabble tip of the day: “qua” is a word.
Every spring and fall, Mary Willis holds a fundraiser wine dinner to benefit the Linwood Community Library at Snowshoe. Believe it or not, this year marks the fifth anniversary of the Linwood Library, and it is thanks to Mary and the Linwood Friends group that the library has grown and flourished. This year’s spring dinner is scheduled for Friday evening, March 20. It will be held at the Elk River Tavern, so you know right away that the food will be excellent, the wine divine, and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Chef David Carte will present a five course meal, with specially selected wines for each course. Dinner is $68 per person with tax and gratuity, and of that, $15 will be donated to the library.
There will be a drawing for wine and community donations, as well. The menu will be announced soon, and you can find out by keeping an eye on their web page at elkriverinnandrestaurant. com/events.php
Finally, just as a teaser – because you will hear more about this in the coming weeks– the new Durbin Community Library is planning an Opening Celebration for Sunday afternoon, June 7, at the new library building. There will be music by Juanita Fireball and the Continental Drifters, square dancing, food and fun. So mark your calendars now, and watch Library Lines in the coming weeks for more information.
