Lewis Varney

Lewis Reed Varney, Jr., age 87, of Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.

Born May 10, 1929, in New Hampshire, he was a son of the late Lewis Reed Varney, Sr. and Winifred Madeline Wyer Varney.

Lewis was a Captain in the dining room at the Homestead Resort for 50 years.

He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of Ashwood United Metho-dist Church.

Louie enjoyed sitting on the street in front of his home and talking to everyone who passed by. He never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Varney, Robert Varney and Larry Varney; and a sister, Gail Pennington.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Kelly, of Minnehaha Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Ashwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Genevieve Bowles officiating. Interment will be held at a late date in the McElwee and Moore Cemetery in Minnehaha Springs.
