Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

Soon, the state Legislature will be debating how to deal with another budget crunch. I hope they don’t forget to invest in the things that help us grow, such as education.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting is a cost-effective and proven way to improve education in our state. Here are just some of the services WVPB provides:

– Free, educational programming for children on PBSKids.org, on our main TV channel as well as our new, 24/7 PBS Kids channel

– Gavel-to-gavel coverage of the state Legislature, Supreme Court, and cultural events such as Arts Alive and the West Virginia History Bowl

– Free educational videos and lesson plans for more than 5,000 West Virginia teachers and homeschool parents through our West Virginia Learning Media website.

Approximately three in four West Virginians want state funding to public broadcasting to be increased or maintained, according to a recent study by Marshall University.

I believe West Virginia Public Broadcasting is a statewide treasure that is worthy of our continued support.

Sincerely,
Thomas P. Epling
Board member, Friends of
West Virginia Public Broadcasting
Cass
