Leon Ryder, age 84, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at home after a sudden illness. He was a long time resident of Lodi, California.

Born May 11, 1929, in Pocahontas County, he was a son of the late Stewart W. and Verlie Nottingham Ryder.

Leon was a graduate of Green Bank High School and entered the United States Air Force and made it his career. He later moved to California and worked at Rollin J. Lobaugh Plant in Pacifica until his retirement.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed most sports, and especially liked the Washington Redskins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Marquerite Miles; older brother, Stewart Richard Ryder; and youngest brother, Charles Ryder.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; a brother, Harold C. Ryder, and wife, Nancy, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Kathleen R. Stone, of Roanoke, Virginia, and Carolyn Kiene, and husband, Chris, of Stephenson, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Gwen Ryder, of Mt. Clemons, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.

Memorial service was in Mesa, Arizona. A military graveside service will be held at a later date in South San Francisco, California.
